Project AWARE Manual Online Get it! Have you ever been in a situation where someone needed help and you didn't know what to do? Have you ever had a coworker, friend or family get hurt? Have you ever cut yourself on a piece of broken glass? [Alright, around my house that's a daily thing--my wife creates architectural and art with glass www.glasswithapast.com] One of the first things listed in the Salt Lake Valley Health Department's Family Emergency Preparedness Guide is to take a class in CPR & First Aid. Chances are, at some time or another you'll probably be in a situation where emergency care is needed. CPR and First Aid training has come a long way since I took my first class. Training has been simplified and streamlined. The goal is adequate care rather than perfection. A few hours of self study and watching a dvd followed by a few hours of hands-on training is all that it takes. Learn how to provide chest compressions and rescue breaths (CPR), how to handle choking, serious bleeding, shock and spinal injuries. Learn what to do if EMS is delayed for bandaging, splinting and assessing illness and injuries. How do you get started? I'll be offering an Emergency First Responce CPR/First Aid class on 20-February. You'll just need to do a bit of reading and watch a dvd before the class, then we meet and practice the skills in a low-stress environment. If you're interested in taking it up a notch, there is an Emergency First Response(EFR) Instructor course on the 21st/22nd. This is a great way to expand training to your coworkers, family and friends. After all, it might be you that needs help, so having more trained people around makes your workplace and home a safer place.10,000 to zero - Leatherback Turtles near extinction Check out this article from The Great Marine Project on Leatherback Turtles. Think you can't dive in Utah? Think again! Utah has some very unique dive sites. Blue Lake (in Utah, you just drive through Nevada to get to it) and the Crater (Homestead Resort, Midway, Utah) are both geothermal dive sites that provide unique dives you can't find outside of Utah. |
